[edit] Session Description

Social Networking isn't just for kids! Although there is lots of media coverage about the dangers of social networking, it is critical that educators get a handle on this evolving medium and discover its potential. This session will focus on the technology and trends of “web 2.0” and delve into how K-12 educators can “get their feet wet” with a new social network and professional learning community developed just for them - http://www.commun-IT.org

[edit] Session Notes and Reflection

I'm very much interested in hearing from participants about how their districts view social networking.

  1. Do you "block" access to it?
  2. Do you encourage it amongst teachers?
  3. Do your professional learning community activities actually include much network building? (with or without online components)
  4. Does you district allow teachers to have a strong say in how discussion boards/conferences are setup in you email/collaboration platform? (e.g. FirstClass)
