[edit] Session Description

Side by Side is the New Teacher Induction Program in the Peel District School Board. Making connections with over 800 new teachers and their mentors while maintaining a focus on job-embedded learning is supported through the use of technology. Participants will be given a brief history of the Side by Side program in order to provide a context from which to explore the many resources that are available to all teachers in the Peel District School Board.

New teachers and mentors have diverse needs. This seminar allows participants to discover the many layers of learning provided for new teachers, mentors, and administrators in a walk-through of our Staff Development and School Support web-site. The learning resources included on this site vary in content, approaches, depth, and cater to a variety of learning styles. The design is one that promotes layers of learning in a variety of topics that are pertinent to new teachers.

Our system has learned a great deal as we have shifted out attention to this approach to professional development. We will close this session by sharing what we've learned, the surprises we've discovered, and the hopes we've developed over the last 2 years.
