Your network is where you manage all of your connections to other people.
Your network consists of friends you have a connection to, friends that have connected to you, communities you are a member of and communities you have set up.
Your network is where all your connections to other learners, instructors, family and friends happen!
This menu option displays all the comunities you are a member of. If you have not joined any communities then you will get a message indicating this. Find out more about communities.
This will list all the communities you own and allow you to create communities - find out more about communities.
'Friends I have linked to' displays all the friends you have linked to, if you would like to remove a friend click on their icon which will take you to their site then click on the link 'Click here to remove this user from your friends list.'
Note: To find new friends, you could search on a subject you are interested in, invite some into the system, or click on any keywords you may have as part of your profile or blog posts.
'Friends who have linked to me' displays all the people who have linked to you as a friend. If you do not want people to list you as a friend you can set this up in your Account_settings. Also see Friendship requests below.
In your Account_settings there is an option to decide whether other users can; list you as a friend, if you would like to moderate this first or no one can list you.
If you have set your account up so that you can moderate friendships, the Friendship requests menu option allows you to manage this.
This is a standard for passing information about you between systems which support this standard.
Elgg is no longer doing any work with FOAF as it never really caught on - you can read more about FOAF here.
This lets you invite people who do not yet have an account on your Elgg to come and join you.
If you want to link to a friend who is already on the system:
Once you have made someone a friend you can add them to your Access groups and restrict content to them.
This can be done in a number of ways: you can use the search box and try searching on something you are interested in. You can try selecting one of your keywords and seeing who you can find. You could see if anyone has made you their friend and do the same in return.
This is up to you - if you make someone your friend it does not give you any special privileges regarding their site
