The CHF (formerly Canadian Hunger Foundation) is sponsoring a media literacy contest for creating media works by students centred on "Sustainable Agriculture". The site includes an assessment rubric (which you can use for your class), media materials including illustrations, photos and videos and explanations of what sustainable agriculture is. Students will be awarded prizes in the following 5 areas: early bird (due Dec. 1), elementary panel, secondary panel, school award for the most entries by one school and the People's Choice award, as determined by on-line voting in the spring.
For more information you can go to www.chf-partners.ca/medialiteracy.
Good luck with the contest!

Hi Shawn
Thanks for sharing this. We, at TLDSB, were involved in a three way videoconference that you helped to facilitate with the CHF and I would encourage all teachers to get involved. The students at the secondary level who took part from Muskoka were moved by the presentation and reacted deeply to the issues. Highly recommended involvement at any level!

If anyone is in London for RCAC on December 13th, my colleague and I are facilitating a session based on our experience coordinating Media Festivals within our district school board. Kids are creating a wide range of media both at work and at play, we may as well provide a venue for promoting their best work.
Hey Quentin, Suzanne and Rodd,
Thanks for your input. I worked with the CHF to set up this contest on my spare time and we're really hoping for LOTS of entries, as there are some neat prizes.
Thanks for your list Quentin!
Suzanne, I'm glad the VC went well. I know the folks who participated in our board enjoyed the experience too!
Rodd, great idea. I tried to set one up at our board last year to no avail, maybe this will be the year! I will pass this on to our new IT consultant.
Take care,
