ESL Instructor, York University
Hi Everyone,
My name is Patricia and I am an ESL Instructor at York University. I have been teaching ESL for the past 7 years: private language school, Toronto Catholic District School Board (Adult Education), University of Guelph, and York University. I teach upper-intermediate ESL courses in an academic preparation program. I am interested in meaningful uses of Web 2.0 technology in language learning. I have been using blogs in my classes since 2004 and now I am interested in combining blogging, podcasting, and other online tools to create personal online spaces for my students. By having their own spaces online students can form online communities and, by doing that, engage in language learning outside of the classroom.
I am also a grad student in the Applied Linguistics program at York University and my main areas of research are online communities and online teacher training courses, programs, and informal teacher gatherings. My personal blog where I reflect on my teaching practice can be found at: http://monitorhypothesis.typepad.com.
I have recently co-moderated a TESOL 2007 pre-conference workshop on using technology in language learning, "Open Webpulishing," which can be found at: http://openwebpublishing.wikispaces.com/
Looking forward to meeting you all!
