Welcome Everyone to the 2007 "Making the Connection...A Video Conference Symposium"

This symposium has been developed by Jeff Brown of the Kawartha Pineridge District School Board and Shawn Allenby of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board to bring like-minded people together to further the use of video conferencing in education today.  This will be done by bringing educational technology experts, content providers and teachers together to explore new and innovative ways to connect so as to bring the richest possible experience to each participating group.

 

During the symposium you will be able to network so that by the end of the day, you will have connections that will allow you to either begin, or continue, the use of video conferencing in your institution.  The whole purpose of the day is to "Make the Connection".

 

We would ask that you log back in to commun-it regularly so that  we can get the introduce ourselves, generate some ideas, you can express the areas you are interested in exploring on that day, and so that we can start the neworking "virtually" so that we can continue even after the symposium.

 

We are looking forwards to seeing you on the 13th!

Hi folks,

This sounds like an exciting conference and I'm really looking forward to it. I want to thank Jeff and Allen for inviting us.

I'm the Director of Public Affairs at ORION (the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network). We're a not-for-profit organization that provides ultra high speed connectivity to Ontario's research and education community. We currently have about 70 organizations connecting, including about 15 Ontario school boards that are using the network's capabilities to host or participate in advanced videoconferencing. 

Part of our mandate is to encourage the use of advanced videoconferencing and other collaborative technologies in schools. We encourage more school boards to connect to ORION and grow a critical mass of boards and schools that take full advantage of the new and innovative tools and resources becoming available.

OK...we are about 2 weeks away from the symposium and it is time to get some discussion going...we have a great plan for the day and really hope you can all benefit from the symposium.  

 

Let's start out by asking...what technology are you using?  Polycom, Tandberg, Breeze (yes, you can use it for VC), other software?
