Just got back from Philadelphia. Holy head hurts.
We started the weekend at the Franklin Institute with a panel discussion on "What is the Purpose of School?". Okay, that's not bunting to first, my friends. An amazing panel of educators, business people, and entrepreneurs took on that challenging question. Saturday morning we hit the ground running. Here's a first stab at making sense of an amazing weekend of discussion, intensity, mutual respect and love of Craft.
- Community - we need to access, and include, human capital.
- Centres of excellence - schools as hubs, bringing in neighbouring communities for discussion and personal discovery
- Creation - of ideas, of spirit, of collegiality, of sharing, of teams
- Curiosity - and the freedom to take the risk to go there
- Clayton Christensen - gonna be huge
- Change - it's in the wind
Please feel free to add anything else that you might be doing to effect change. Doesn't have to start with a "C":)

I look forward to hearing your comments about Obama and the shift in education in the United States. Without a doubt, there will be a major shift "from no child left behind" and I am sure that this conference put you on the cutting edge of some of the "changes in the wind".
I would really like to read Christensen's new book, Disrupting Class. Did you bring me back a copy?
I like your summary!
I guess from my perspective the "C" that I would add would be "children". Underlying all the other Cs for me as an educator is the kids. I really want to tap in to what they have to offer, shift my perspective as much as I can in order to see things from their perspectives, and bring them into meaningful conversations around what we need to do and what we need in order to do it.
Barb gets flickrd...
